This spoken word video was directed, scripted and edited by Jean Keating. The video captures the generational legacy of slavery on conceptions of black female beauty and identity. Material gain as a means of escape from the cycle of suffering is questioned as a source of healing. Rather, the author intends to show black art and black female idols, in particular, Beyonce and Maya Angelou, as key remedies for our community.
